Rumors began swirling that Sink would portray Jean Grey in Spider-Man: Brand New Day. While this seemed a bit out of left field, especially with the Avengers movies on the horizon, the plot thickens. It's been reported that Sink is slated to appear in Secret Wars.

Photos from the set have surfaced, showing Sink in costume. While the initial impression was that she might be playing Rachel Cole-Alves, insiders hint that there's more to her character than meets the eye. Some of the latest whispers suggest she could be Shathra or even the daughter of Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Sink addressed the viral photo of her in a head-to-toe puffer jacket. "Tom can wave at the fans because people know who he is, but then you get a glimpse of me, and I'm like a penguin," she joked. "That'll be the situation for a bit, it seems." She also revealed that talks with Marvel Studios started during the filming of Stranger Things Season 5, so not as far back as you might think.
When asked about the Jean Grey rumors, Sink seemed to shut them down, saying, "That was happening before I even knew that I would be working on this project. I was like, 'Wait! What are people talking about?'"
Regarding the endless fan theories, including one that her red hair could mean she's playing Rachel, The Punisher's sidekick, Sink stated, "A lot of people forget that hair color can change, but, yeah, I understand all of the theories." She added, "People will just have to wait and see," refusing to reveal any details about her role, perhaps a bit exasperated by the speculation. "I'm excited for all of it to maybe be put to rest."

It's easy to imagine that fans will be disappointed with whoever Sink ends up playing, given the many possibilities. It will be challenging for Spider-Man: Brand New Day to please everyone.
Destin Daniel Cretton, the director of Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, is directing Spider-Man: Brand New Day, with Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, the returning Spider-Man franchise writers, penning the script.
Tom Holland will star as Spider-Man, alongside Jon Bernthal (The Punisher), Mark Ruffalo (The Hulk), Zendaya (MJ), Michael Mando (The Scorpion), Tramell Tillman, Marvin Jones III (Tombstone), Jacob Batalon (Ned Leeds), and Liza Colón-Zayas. Florence Pugh, the Thunderbolts star, is expected to reprise her role as Yelena Belova.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled to be released in theaters on July 31, 2026.
